The following services are offered by the Manistee ISD Technology Department
High Speed Internet Access - MISD-NET Fast, reliable, low cost connectivity to the World Wide Web. Safe Internet Browsing (Child Internet Protection Act Compliance) Web filtering allows controlled access and significantly reduce security threats, legal liability threats, productivity threats and network abuse threats. Local / Wide Area Network Connectivity High speed Education network connects Manistee County School Districts together. This allows us to deliver exciting technologies to all students and staff.
Web Site Hosting
A service that provides schools with online systems for storing information, images, video, or any content accessible via the web.
Web Caching
A web service that reduces bandwidth usage and web site access times. A web cache stores copies of resources requested by users. This results in a 30%-50% increase in Internet access times.
Domain Name Services
This system stores information about host names and domain names in a kind of distributed database on networks, such as the Internet. Most importantly, it provides an IP address for each host name, and lists the mail exchange servers accepting e-mail for each domain.
Microsoft Exchange Messaging
Standardization on Microsoft Exchange Messaging Platform enables efficient communication and collaboration with all schools in Manistee County. E-mail is currently the most widely used collaborative technology. Exchange offers access to critical data whenever and wherever with greater security, availability and reliability.
Multi-Layered SPAM / Virus Filtering In order to minimize the occurrences of unsolicited and infected messages we have incorporated multi-layered SPAM and virus filtering. Messages are passed through three different checkpoints prior to reaching mailboxes. Student E-mail Services Managed by your School Network Administrator, our student E-mail services include filtered messaging for your students Network / Systems Monitoring 24 x 7 x 365 Our network is monitored around the clock. Monitoring systems are designed to alert our technicians if outages occur. Alerts are sent via pager, cell phone and e-mail. Virtual Private Network Access Anytime, anywhere, secure and encrypted access to internal or Intranet systems from the public Internet. Advanced Firewall Protection Services Our Linux based firewall is an enterprise class device which protects users and systems against Internet threats such as hackers. Traffic Shaping / Prioritization This technology corrects WAN and Internet performance problems. Shaping controls bandwidth utilization and application performance by actively preventing network congestion. Traffic shaping allows you to ensure true Quality of Service for mission-critical applications. Distance Learning Also known as Two-way Interactive Television, ITV enables interactive video for virtual field trips, classroom sharing, professional development, projects and meetings. Unique partnerships with Wexford-Missaukee ISD and West Shore Community College enable exciting new ways to deliver education. Technology Consulting Qualified, experienced staff assist schools in making important decisions on technology needs. County Wide Technology Meetings With a focus on Education Technology, these meetings are designed to present projects and happenings to Manistee County Technology Directors, Coordinators and Technology Liaisons. The main goal of these meetings is to make information available to local schools and the community. Technology Plan Review Technology planning is federally mandated for local school agencies seeking technology funding from federal programs, including the Universal Service Fund (E-Rate) and No Child Left Behind legislation. Our department insures your plan is complaint with state and federal standards. Single Record Student Database (SRSD) A state database of student information, submitted three times a year by all public schools in the state of Michigan. It is used to track students statewide and provide a way of reducing student record duplication. The ISDs role in the SRSD submission process is to be a single point of contact between the state and the Local Education Authorities (LEAs). as part of that role, the ISD error checks and transmits the LEA count information to the state. Voice Communication Services Using the power of the network to lower the cost of telecommunications services. Technology Training / Tutorials Training on services provided at Manistee ISD. Online tutorials allow home access to training materials. Technical Support Fast, friendly response for all technical support issues on services provided by the Manistee ISD. Collaborative Purchasing Provides cost effective technology solutions through collaborative purchasing, includes software, licensing, hardware and more. Open Source / Linux Software Open source solutions for low budget environments. Chosen for performance, reliability, and cost. Research in Emerging Technologies Extensive research on exciting new technologies (Wireless, Open source, Voice over IP, Video etc) and how they can benefit local area schools and the community.
