Welcome Kim

Please join us in welcoming Kim Blaszak as our new superintendent, serving in a shared role with Manistee ISD and Wexford-Missaukee ISD! We’re excited to celebrate Kim as she steps into this position and continues the strong partnership between our two ISDs.

Kim brings a deep well of experience and leadership to this role. A Lake City native and Lake City High School graduate, she earned her undergraduate degree from Calvin College and her master’s in education along with a K–12 administrative certification from Grand Valley State University. Her career has included serving as a teacher and principal downstate, 11 years as superintendent of Lake City Area Schools, and most recently, interim superintendent for Onekama Consolidated Schools in 2023.

She’s also a familiar and trusted leader within both ISDs. Kim has served as interim superintendent since October, following the retirement of Dave Cox, who went on to become president and CEO of the Cadillac Area Chamber of Commerce. Prior to that, she worked as assistant superintendent of general education for both Manistee ISD and Wexford-Missaukee ISD, building strong relationships with staff and local districts along the way.

At the heart of Kim’s work is a genuine commitment to students. In a recent interview with the Manistee Advocate, she shared that her passion for education has always been rooted in supporting students as whole individuals.

“Whether it’s learning how to read or developing a positive mindset about school, I’ve always wanted to walk alongside students and provide support—academically and emotionally,” she said.

As superintendent, Kim is focused on collaboration, thoughtful planning, and strong partnerships. She looks forward to working closely with both ISDs and local school districts to identify needs and develop strategic plans that guide future decisions—whether related to staffing, finances, or additional supports—always keeping students at the center of the work.

Outside of work, Kim enjoys spending time outdoors—skiing, swimming, and making the most of Northern Michigan life. Most of all, she treasures time with her family, especially her kids and grandkids.

We’re grateful for the leadership, experience, and heart Kim brings to this role and excited for what’s ahead. Congratulations, Kim, and welcome! 🎉
