Two adorable two-week-old piglets from Ms. Angela’s farm stopped by, and let’s just say… they completely stole the show.

From tiny snorts to wiggly tails, our students were all smiles getting to see, hear, and gently interact with these sweet little animals. Experiences like this bring learning to life in the best way!

And of course, we couldn’t let them leave without learning a few fun facts…

🐖 10 Fun Piglet Facts We Learned:

*Piglets can start walking just minutes after they’re born!
*They stay close to their mom and recognize her voice.
*A piglet’s little “zoomies” are called the piggy zoom (okay, we might’ve made that one up 😄).
*They use their noses to explore the world—kind of like built-in shovels!
*Piglets sleep a LOT—growing is hard work!
*Each piglet has a favorite spot when nursing and will go back to the same one every time.
*They can squeal in different ways to communicate different needs.
*Piglets love warmth and often cuddle together to stay cozy.
*Their tails wag when they’re happy—just like a puppy!
*Pigs are actually very smart animals—even as babies!

Huge thank you to Ms. Angela for sharing such a special experience with us. This was definitely a day to remember in our MOCI classroom! 💛🐷

Join us for an informative and welcoming evening focused on Transition Programming and Services for students (ages 16-26) receiving special education services. During this session, we will share information about how federal law (IDEA) and guidance from the Michigan Department of Education guide the transition planning process and requirements for students with an Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Families will learn how transition planning helps prepare young adults for life after high school, including planning for employment, education or training, independent living skills, and community participation. They will also gain a better understanding of the IEP transition plan and how schools support students while having the opportunity to meet representatives from local community agencies, learn about available services, and explore ways to connect supports with adult programs and resources.

Attendees will gain information on/about ...

✔️ What Transition Planning means for Michigan students (16-26 years old) with an IEP
✔️ Understanding the Transition Section of the IEP
✔️ How to connect with local agencies supporting young adults with disabilities
✔️ Information about services, eligibility, and application steps for community supports

The Snack Shack is officially open in the lobby of the West Shore Community College / Michigan Works building on River Street in Manistee!

The Snack Shack is a student-run initiative of the Manistee ISD Older- MOCI's TCLE Transition Program, which supports young adults ages 18–26 with moderate cognitive impairments as they prepare for life after high school. Through hands-on, real-world experiences, students are building skills in communication, independent living, and workplace readiness — all while connecting with our community.

Every purchase helps our students practice customer service, money skills, teamwork, and responsibility. Our students, along with their Community Coach, will be taking inventory and restocking weekly to keep your favorite snacks coming!

🙌 A HUGE thank you to our amazing sponsors for helping make this possible:
Manistee Area Chamber of Commerce, West Shore Community College, Munson Healthcare, and West Shore Bank!!
